A Food Hall for All

There’s something quite special about Franklin’s Table, the 8,000-square-foot food hall turning out sweet and savory selections from some of Philly’s most exciting chefs.
Far from an old-school food court, Franklin’s Table is one of retail district Shop Penn’s undeniable hot spots. The community hub became a University City staple seemingly overnight and brings together an eclectic crowd (think graduate and undergraduate students, university faculty, young professionals, hospital staff, business owners, area workers, neighborhood residents, and out-of-town visitors) for lunch and dinner. With stalls catering to every craving, seating for 175, a global gamut of cuisines, and an impressive number of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, this is the dining destination everybody’s talking about.

What better place to start choosing your own eating adventure. If exquisitely prepared fish and rice make your eyes light up, stake out a spot at DK Sushi, a new fine casual experience from Michael Schulson, behind Center City’s Double Knot (not to mention Sampan, Harp & Crown & Monkitail). Sit barside for a crash course in what’s affectionately known as “Sushi School” and enjoy traditional Japanese omakase, a phrase that translates to “I’ll leave it up to you.” Whether you go with an individual roll or a specialty box (shout-out to “Eat Your Salmon”), take it from the hordes of people touting DK’s sleek, gift-like boxes: it’s hard to go wrong here.

Believe the hype.  Vegan and kosher falafel shop Goldie is the brainchild of the CookNSolo Restaurant Partners, which also includes such faves Zahav, and Federal Donuts, among others.  The no-frills menu features falafel, fries, and tehina shakes, and makes a compelling argument for keeping it simple.  Crunchy-yet-fluffy, emerald green falafel balls are fried fresh to order and can be tucked into a pita or used to top a salad, unlike one you’re about to whip up at home on a weeknight.  Their creative condiments (Spicy Schug! Earthy Harissa! Funky Amba!) and shawarma-spiced fries can’t go without mentioning and make sure to save room for one of their signature shakes.  Available in flavors like Turkish coffee, mint chocolate, and banana, you won’t believe something so rich and creamy could be dairy-free.

High Street has shaken things up as High Street Provisions is now High Street Hoagies. High Street is known for perfect sandwiches served on the city’s best bread, baked daily and now they are applying that expertise to a range of hot and cold hoagies available only at Franklin's Table. All the sandwiches are named after Philly neighborhoods so swing by and try yourself a Fairmount (ham + salumi, red onions, iceberg, provolone, fennel, calabrian chili oil, oregano) or a Brewerytown (chicken, frank’s hot sauce, celery, iceberg, blue cheese, garlic aioli).

PaperMill is bringing it with its own unique take on Asian Fare! After starting on the beaches of Sydney, Australia and inspired by the Korean menu he grew up with, founder Alex Sherack has been serving the people of Philadelphia from his food truck and is now bringing that same energy to PaperMill’s first-ever brick and mortar location here in University City.  Visit their stall and you can expect a ‘Fresh-Asian’ inspired menu that includes their famous Spurritos (fresh spring roll burritos), made-to-order bowls, Banh-Mi hoagies, sides and a range of refreshing beverages. Don't forget to add some guacamole, avocado, or some spicy peanut spice to really spruce up your order!

Two words: Pizza. Night. You may recognize the name Pitruco from their treasure of a pizza truck — or perhaps from the nighttime bites at Smokey Joe’s (where they go by the name Enjay’s).  The two childhood friends from northwest Philadelphia landed one of the coveted slots inside Franklin’s Table for their first brick-and-mortar shop, and can be seen slinging affordable, award-winning, wood-fired pies with an ideal sauce-to-cheese-to-crust ratio. You don’t need to be a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur to appreciate the beauty in their from-scratch, cut-no-corners approach.  All of their sauces, doughs, veggies, and toppings are done in-house. Make sure you visit often, as specials change continuously, not just seasonally!

Fan-favorite Bubble tea is the newest offering available at Franklin's Table with the arrival of Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea. Yi Fang is committed to providing high-quality boba tea infused with raw ingredients and creates all of its hand-crafted beverages utilizing old-fashioned brewing methods passed down through the generations. For three generations, their family had been planting pineapples for a living. Their grandmother braised overripe golden pineapples into a homemade jam, and this secret recipe became the main ingredient in the company’s most popular drink, Yi Fang Fruit Tea.

Since opening in 2018, Franklin's Table has been home to a premier lineup of food and beverage offerings from critically acclaimed chefs and local best-in-class operators. Each stall showcases the individual flavor and character of our restaurant’s offerings in an eclectic mix of new concepts and established favorites. Franklin's Table is the best answer to the question of "What do you want to eat?"
